The Prevention Services Program
Pathfinders Prevention Services, was developed to empower youth and young adults to change their behavior in ways that will reduce their risk of becoming infected with HIV, other STI's and risk for pregnancy. The Prevention Services Program utilizes peer education and combines motivational, educational, and skills building elements to instruct and promote healthy sexual behavior.
Second Quarter 2010 results:
- 122 youth have participated in the Making Proud Choices! curriculum. (offered at four Milwaukee Public Schools)
- 84 parents were given information on how to positively communicate with their children about sex at the 2010 Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Event.
- 70 youth attended the Street Smart curriculum (offered at Pathfinders Drop In Center)
- 87% of Street Smart participants have recognized risky situations and have chosen to use alternative coping skills.
