Step 5
Problem Sexual Behavior Treatment & Prevention
Phillip, 16 years old, committed a sexual offense against a younger cousin and was referred to Pathfinders Step 5 Program. Phillip participated in the Step 5 individual, family, and group therapy and education sessions. Prior to graduating from the program, Phillip had made significant improvement. he:
- took responsibility for his behavior
- had a greater understanding of the impact of the offense
- demonstrated an understanding of the risk factors that contributed to his offending behavior
- and actively prepared a plan for how he would work to maintain a healthy lifestyle after treatment.
Phillip’s mother participated in the Step 5 group and family sessions, which helped her better understand her son. They communicated positively and she received the support needed to institute a plan for healthy living at home.
Step 5 Program Description:
- Treatment program for youth and young adults who exhibit sexual behavior problems between the ages of 11-25
- Provides individual, family and group therapy services
- Requires family and/or caregiver support and participation as a critical element
- Individualizes treatment based on the needs of the youth and their family
- Aid youth and families to utilize alternative, healthy behavior patterns
- Develops safety for the family and community from further sexual behavior problems
- Youth and families leave the program with a comprehensive and realistic plan for safety, relapse prevention and healthy living.
Step 5 currently provides services for:
- Milwaukee County Delinquency and Court Services Division
- Wraparound Milwaukee
- Department of Corrections – Division of Juvenile Corrections
